Outcomes 2023 and the status quo

In 2023, the Russian market for fire safety systems reached RUB 50 billion. This is 15% more than the estimate in 2022. The growth was achieved due to increasing number of housing commissions, intensification of commercial and industrial property construction, and replacement of end-of-life equipment.

The leading positions in the Russian market are held by three companies: Rubezh, Argus-Spectr and Bolid. Together they account for about 75% of the total market, and this figure has increased over the last two years.

Speaking about the import of solutions for fire protection, it should be noted that the integrated fire safety systems on the market are mainly domestically produced, which is primarily due to an understanding of the specifics of the Russian domestic market, including in terms of regulations. At the same time, a number of hardware and software items were supplied from Europe, the USA and Japan until 2022, which forced market participants to look for alternatives, including those produced domestically.

Fire Protection Market Forecasts and Trends 2024

By the end of the year, the segment of solutions for fire safety and fire protection will show growth of 10-15%, and in some areas – up to 30%. This forecast is given in a study by RUBEZH Analytics. What explains such growth rates?

Undoubtedly, the first and most important factor is the increase in construction rates. While residential construction was the main driver in 2023, in the coming years we should expect to see an increase in the influence of commercial and industrial property on the fire safety systems market. Moreover, in many regions, the authorities have launched incentive programmes to encourage the construction of such facilities: for example, in Moscow, developers can receive a concession for changing the type of permitted use of a land plot if they build new places for labour use (office complexes, industrial parks, warehouses) between the Third Ring Road and the Moscow Ring Road.

The second factor is the change in the regulatory framework. Thus, in accordance with GOST R 59638-2021, the service life of fire safety systems is 10 years. Accordingly, in the current and next year the equipment installed in 2014-2015 is due for replacement.

A key trend in the market for fire protection systems is that such solutions continue to "get smarter". This applies to two main trends. The first involves the integration of fire protection systems with smart building and smart city systems. This greatly simplifies the operation of the building and allows to optimise costs while ensuring a high level of safety, as well as improving the quality of work of city firefighting units. The second direction involves expanding the use of artificial intelligence, neural networks, machine learning and big data analysis mechanisms to improve the quality of countering current and future threats, as well as to develop personalised solutions tailored to the specific characteristics of a particular facility. For example, AI-equipped monitoring systems will be able to detect fires much faster than those equipped with conventional sensors. This solution will be in demand, for example, in warehouses where large volumes of flammable products are stored.

We should also expect further "tightening of the screws" on the part of the state. Taking into account a number of high-profile emergency incidents, the authorities may tighten a number of fire safety rules and regulations. In addition, in the coming years we should expect the introduction of compulsory fire insurance, which will also affect the pace of firefighting equipment sales.
